Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) - Housing for All

Overview

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is a flagship mission of the Government of India, launched with the objective of providing "Housing for All." The scheme is divided into two major components: PMAY-Urban (PMAY-U) and PMAY-Gramin (PMAY-G). The mission aims to ensure that every homeless citizen and those living in kutcha (temporary) houses are provided with a permanent, pucca house that includes basic amenities such as a kitchen, a toilet, electricity, and water connection. The scheme is not just about building walls; it's about providing dignity and security to the economically weaker sections (EWS), lower-income groups (LIG), and middle-income groups (MIG). Under PMAY-U, beneficiaries are provided with interest subsidies on home loans through the Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS) and financial assistance for the construction of new houses. PMAY-G focuses on providing direct financial assistance to households in rural areas, calculated based on the socio-economic conditions identified in the SECC (Socio-Economic Caste Census) database. This scheme is a massive step towards realizing the dream of every Indian citizen to have a home they can call their own.
