Why launched: India ranks 2nd globally in fish production (13.8MMT 2025) but productivity low at 2.2kg/ha vs world 4.9kg/ha. PMMSY addresses this gap through Blue Revolution 2.0 launched 2020 with ₹20,050 crore outlay till 2024-25 extended to 2026. Core Benefits: Doubles production to 22MMT creating 55 lakh jobs. Fisheries KCC up to ₹3 lakh at 4% interest. ₹5 lakh group accident insurance for 2.5 crore fishers. Export infra with 50 seafood parks. Aquaculture insurance covers 50% premium. Women self-help groups get 60% subsidy for RAS farms. Implementation: 4 components - Enhancement (inland/coastal), Infra (parks/harbors), Productivity (hatcheries/feed), Misc (research/traceability). 100% grant for NER states. Blockchain traceability mandatory for exports. By 2026, 5,000+ Sagar Mitras trained, 200+ aqua parks operational. Success Stats: Fish exports hit $8B (2025), 20 lakh KCC issued, 1.2 crore insured. LWE areas get priority funding. Digital platform Sagarmitra for scheme tracking.
