Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman (PM-POSHAN) provides free hot cooked meals to 10.34 crore school children in 11.20 lakh schools. Annual cost ₹10,233 crore for Classes I-VIII. Fortified rice, protein menu (eggs/soya) introduced 2026.
One meal covers 1/3rd daily nutrition requirements. Decentralized kitchen-cum-centres. GIS mapping for monitoring. Safety audits, CCTV, diet committees. 20% flexi-funds for water, toilets, cycles.
Who is Eligible?
- Government schools Classes I-VIII
- Aided schools/madrasas
- Residential schools all classes
- 80% attendance compulsory
- Children aged 6-14 years
